Seven supercritical CO2 extracts at a combined 25% concentration — significantly above the 0.5-3% typical of natural cosmetics. German Chamomile and Calendula CO2 act within minutes; Hops CO2 delivers 8-prenylnaringenin, the most potent plant phytoestrogen identified to date. Description

Calming. Not Masking.

That itch that starts mid-afternoon. The tightness after washing. The flaking you didn’t have five years ago. If your scalp has become reactive in ways it never used to, you’re not imagining it — and it’s not just “sensitive skin.”

As oestrogen declines during perimenopause, the scalp’s protective lipid barrier weakens and its immune response becomes more reactive. This is why scalp conditions that never bothered you before — itching, flaking, burning after colouring or heat styling — often appear or intensify during this transition. SYLVA is designed to calm this response at its source.

Texture & Consistency

A lightweight, fast-absorbing oil with a silky, non-greasy finish. It sinks into the scalp within minutes rather than sitting on the surface, so it never feels heavy — even applied daily, even under fine or thinning hair.

Scent Profile — What to Expect

A fresh, herbaceous scent led by cooling peppermint and tea tree, softened by lavender. Green and clean rather than sweet or floral — the aroma of something medicinal working, not a fragrance layered on top.

How It Works — Why This Formula

SYLVA is built around a simple principle: calm the inflammation first, then address its cause. The Chamomile and Calendula CO2 extracts act within minutes to reduce redness and irritation, while St John’s Wort CO2 works more slowly underneath to repair the micro-damage that keeps a scalp stuck in an itch-scratch cycle. Tea Tree targets the fungal overgrowth behind most dandruff directly, rather than simply masking flakes. Hops CO2 was included specifically because topical phytoestrogen support has shown benefit for scalp barrier function during the hormonal shifts of perimenopause — this formula treats the itch as a symptom of a hormonal transition, not an isolated skin issue.

The SYLVA Calming Strategy

  • Dual Chamomile-Calendula Defence: German Chamomile CO2 delivers chamazulene and α-bisabolol — two of the most effective natural anti-inflammatories known — paired with Calendula CO2’s faradiol esters to calm redness and rebuild the epidermis at the same time.
  • Wound-Healing Intelligence: St John’s Wort CO2 (hyperforin) repairs the micro-damage caused by scratching, breaking the itch-scratch-inflammation cycle.
  • Targeted Antifungal Action: Tea Tree oil addresses Malassezia, the yeast responsible for most dandruff, without stripping the scalp.
  • Hormonal Barrier Support: Hops CO2 provides 8-prenylnaringenin, the most potent plant phytoestrogen identified to date, offering the scalp support during oestrogen decline.

Key Benefits

  • Calms on Contact: Chamomile and Calendula CO2 begin working within minutes — ideal for scalps that flare after colouring or heat styling.
  • Breaks the Itch-Scratch Cycle: St John’s Wort CO2 heals existing micro-irritation rather than just numbing it.
  • Hormonal Scalp Support: Formulated specifically for scalp changes during perimenopause — not a generic “sensitive skin” product.

How to Use

Apply a few drops directly to the scalp, focusing on any tight or irritated areas. Massage in gently. Leave on — no rinsing required. Use morning, evening, or between washes, as often as needed.

A Highly Concentrated Formula

This formula contains 25% supercritical CO2 botanical extracts — significantly higher than the industry norm of 0.5-3% for natural cosmetics. Supercritical CO2 extraction preserves the full spectrum of a plant’s bioactive compounds without heat damage or solvent residue, resulting in an extract far more concentrated and potent than a conventional infusion or macerate. Every carrier oil, CO2 extract and essential oil in this formula is sourced from verified, trusted European suppliers with full Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and GC-MS testing for every batch — the same sourcing standard applied across the entire Artemida Botanicals range.

  1. Dorota

This is a product that can easily replace prescription medical treatments, as it contains highly concentrated ingredients.
I would recommend it for mature scalps that are oversensitive and difficult to please as my scalp that can become dry and itchy and then oily within just a few days—probably something to do with hormonal changes during menopause.
This oil has been great for helping keep my scalp balanced and it’s not greasy for my hair.
